Meetings and Conferences
If you are paying for meetings and conferences with federal funds, watch out for these two points:
#1 Meetings and conference costs are generally allowable if the primary purpose of primary purpose is to disseminate information technical in nature and related to the federal award. If the purpose is for other reasons, don’t use federal funds.
#2 If the meeting or conference meets the primary purpose test, then you still need to make sure the costs are reasonable. Think of “reasonable” as something you would be comfortable defending to your program officer, a taxpayer or even the reporter from the Wall Street Journal! A $16 muffin, maybe not.
