At last week’s national Grant Professional Association Conference, someone asked me how long I’ve been training grant recipients and I reflected I was well into my second decade, but approaching the 10-year anniversary of MyFedTrainer.com.
So to honor our first 10 years as one of the premier federal grant management training companies in the United States, specializing in training seminars about 2 CFR Part 200, (aka the Uniform Guidance) I am pulling this post out of moth-balls that I wrote when I first started the company.
Enjoy my throwback blog post. 🙂
Launching MyFedTrainer.com January 1, 2010
Well, if you know what it feels like to create something where only “swirling gases and dust” existed before. You will know that is how I feel about launching MyFedTrainer.com
MyFedTrainer represents a solution to a problem I was running into as a grant professional. In 2009, I sat where many of you may sit – as a manager in a non-profit organization.
We had received over $100M in funding during the last few years and were awaiting our first big system review since our funding Agency sent us a big pile of money.
It didn’t take long to realize that the line of questioning consisted largely of “how are employees trained on this regulation?” and “how are employees trained on that regulation?”
Hey, wait a minute, they never asked for this before!
- What changed?
Federal Agencies Under More Pressure for Compliance
Well, one thing that changed was that federal agencies were now under increasing pressure from their own oversight agencies to make sure they were monitoring what was happening with the millions they were sending out the door through federal grants.
Hmm, I was used to the “old school” grant management. You know, the one where just a couple people in the whole organization actually attended training on federal grant management.
(I’m sure you’ve been there – where one or two people carry the weight of the grant compliance knowledge.)
Wait a minute! (this was the beginning of a radical idea)
“Why couldn’t compliance training be available to everyone in the organization via the web? This would allow employees from Antarctica to Alaska to conveniently get trained on their own schedule. Everyone pulling together on the program. It’s a no-brainer!”
The Birth of Easy-to-Access Federal Grant Management Training
Enter MyFedTrainer…
It’s taken us longer than I expected to get here but I like where we are going.
We are finding interest in not only in our grant-specific courses but also as one-stop shopping for other types of compliance training like harassment and code of conduct.
And how about wrapping up the whole idea up with a big ribbon by using a learning management system to run reports showing who took what training.
Hopefully, after you give it a try you will see how we can be excited about the convenience of online training.
MyFedTrainer.com Wants Your Grant Feedback
We want feedback!
We created MyFedTrainer in a way that we think will work well for people who have been in the same types of positions we’ve been in, but if you have a better idea please let us know.
We also have an extensive list of ideas for future courses and compliance products but want to take this where you want us to go.
We appreciate you taking the time to check us out and hope you’ll find MyFedTrainer as convenient a solution to your training needs as we do.
