Don’t we all?
We have a few tips for you.
We recently surveyed our grant community about how to get the best results for trainees.
And the responses were a bit surprising (even to us!)
Now we know hosting training events can be challenging.
And holding compliance training that keeps everyone engaged can be even tougher.
Fortunately, a few tweaks to your training style and schedule can maximize your training results.
Here’s what we discovered….
What Type of Training Works Best?
Most people prefer one style of training.
In fact the survey results came close to hitting the 80/20 rule.
I don’t know why I was so surprised…
Let’s face it; we are a drive-through culture.
We want it quick and we want it now.
Preferences for training are no different….
79% of people prefer to get their training in a live-instructor led session.
A hard-core 14% prefers self-paced training.
(More about that when we look at the best days for training.)
And then there is remaining 7% who would rather get a root canal without Novocaine than attend any training.
What Are the Best Days of the Week for Training?
We asked “What are the best two days of the week to hold training?”
And we thought everyone would prefer the end of the week.
The results show it’s not good to make assumptions.
The reality is that Thursday Friday only beat out Monday Tuesday by a nose.
Best days for training:
- Thursday-Friday (34%)
- Monday-Tuesday (31%)
- Tuesday-Weds. (21%)
And that same 14% that prefers self-paced training?
Well they don’t care what day you hold the training, because they are doing it when they want to anyway.
What Are the Best Months for Training?
It’s simple….avoid weddings, graduations, and holidays.
Want to have a successful training event? Skip the months of June and December.
Nobody wants to squeeze training into those months.
And when I say no one, I mean zilch, zip, nada.
We didn’t have a single response in favor of conducting training in either of those months.
The most popular months were:
- February (14%)
- March (14%)
- May (14%)
These months were closely followed by:
- January (10%)
- July (10%)
To Be Successful, Listen To Your Community
I admit it…
I am a recovering self-paced learner.
When we started MyFedTrainer.com it was designed for grant staff from Alaska to Antarctica-who wanted the online convenience of training without travel.
But then what happened?
The grant regulations changed and we started getting requests for live-instructor led session.
And we discovered many (OK most people) liked the idea of getting to come in and get trained on the new grant regulations in just a couple days.
But then what happened Successful Training,?
People started asking us if we hosted live training that they could come to.
So we have some exciting news coming on that…very…soon.
